Sorry, Baby Trailer: Eva Victor’s Sundance Hit Arrives in Theaters this June
On Thursday morning, A24 shared the first trailer for Sorry, Baby, which wowed crowds at this year’s Sundance Film Festival and was one of the few major acquisitions of the festival after it won the Waldo Salt Screenwriting Award out of the U.S. Dramatic Competition. Sorry, Baby will make stops to open the Seattle International Film Festival on May 24th, and close this year’s Cannes Directors’ Fortnight before a limited theatrical release from A24 on June 27th, before opening wide on July 18th.
Watch the trailer below.
The information about the film is shockingly scarce, with only a logline stating, “Something bad happened to Agnes. But life goes on—for everyone around her, at least.” The cast includes writer-director Eva Victor as Agnes, Naomi Ackie (Mickey 17), Lucas Hedges (Manchester by the Sea), John Carroll Lynch (Fargo), Louis Cancelmi (Killers of the Flower Moon), and Kelly McCormack (Problemista).
Outside of this, there are scant details about this movie. Usually, I’d take that as a sign that a studio is not confident in the film. In this instance, it seems to be a marketing and storytelling tactic to create curiosity among viewers. I sincerely hope movie theaters hold this film for a long time, long enough for people to see it. I love directorial debuts, especially ones that take a swing like this. Nevertheless, if Sorry, Baby is screening at my local theater, you can bet I’ll be there.
