Materialists Trailer: Celine Song Brings Back the Rom-Drama with Dakota Johnson, Pedro Pascal & Chris Evans This June
On Thursday morning, A24 shared the second trailer for Materialists, the highly anticipated follow-up to writer-director Celine Song’s Best Picture-nominated debut, Past Lives. The film brings together an all-star cast of hot people, Dakota Johnson, Chris Evans, and Pedro Pascal, and is set for a wide theatrical release on June 13th, 2025.
Materialists follows Johnson as a young, ambitious New York City matchmaker, caught in a love triangle between the seemingly perfect match (Pascal) and her charming but flawed ex (Evans). However, unlike most modern rom-coms, the trailer pays loving tribute to the early-2000s era of romantic dramedies, complete with playful narration and an original song by Japanese Breakfast.
Watch the trailer below.
As someone who grew up watching classics like Legally Blonde, The Princess Diaries, Sweet Alabama, and What A Girl Wants, I'm thrilled to see Song giving this genre a fresh and stylish revival. With such a magnetic cast and one of my favorite musicians providing at least one song on the soundtrack, Materialists is high on my must-watch list for June. After how much I loved Past Lives last year, I have the utmost confidence that Celine Song will deliver another standout film.
