My Thoughts
As a member of OFTA since January 2021, I am always intrigued to see how the winners reflect and defy my expectations. Anora's Best Picture win, as well as its dual Breakthrough Performance awards, cements it as the film you need to see from 2024. On the other hand, The Substance's near-sweep of five of its nine nominations highlights how much the film resonated with my fellow critics.
It's also worth noting the technical feats that were recognized, from the cinematography in Nosferatu to the innovative title sequence in The Brutalist. Last but certainly not least, I was surprised that despite being the most nominated films, Wicked and Dune: Part Two only came away with three awards.
