Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes Roars onto Blu-ray and Digital this Summer

What a wonderful day! On June 20th, Disney announced that the next chapter of the Planet of the Apes saga, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, swings onto digital platforms on July 9th, 2024, followed by its 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray, Blu-ray, and DVD releases on August 27th, 2024. This marks Disney's first home media release in collaboration with Sony, so it’ll be interesting to see whether this new home media partnership will be better than Disney’s solo efforts.

Synopsis

Directed by Wes Ball and set in a future that is many generations removed from Caesar’s reign where apes rule and humans are being hunted, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes follows the journey of Noa (Owen Teague), a young ape, and Mae (Freya Allen), a human survivor. Together, they navigate a world of shifting alliances and existential dilemmas, challenging the very fabric of their societies.

Collectors and enthusiasts will be happy to know that Disney is going all out with the 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray artwork, as the release will arrive in a limited edition SteelBook that features exclusive artwork by Dylan Cole. Also, Disney did make mention of a special Planet of the Apes 10 film bundle that will be available for $100 on digital platforms (HD and SD only, though).

Artwork and Packshots

Digging further into the special features, there is a making-of documentary called “Inside the Forbidden Zone: Making Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes”, where director Wes Ball, cast, and crew discuss the production of the film in Australia, Ape School training, as well as the practical and motion capture techniques used in the film. There are also 14 deleted/extended scenes with option audio commentary by director Wes Ball. Please note these bonus features may vary by product and retailer.
